Restarted activity in the 3C 328 radio galaxy

چکیده

As a rule, both lobes of Fanaroff-Riley (FR) type-II radio sources are terminated with hotspots, but the 3C 328 galaxy is specimen an FR II-like object hotspot in only one lobe. A conceivable reason for such asymmetry that nucleus was temporarily inactive. There no energy transfer from it to during period quiescence, and so they began fade out. However, under assumption axis connecting two makes appreciable angle sky plane, hence considerably farther observer than other, observed at distinct stages evolution due light-travel lag. While far-side lobe still perceived as being II type hotspot, decay near-side already apparent. No jets visible VLA images, VLBA observations inverted-spectrum core component have revealed has jet sub-arcsecond length pointing towards shows evidence decay. Since always points near side, its orientation line scenario proposed here. The presence supports inference currently active; however, given fact short (∼200 pc projection), activity must restarted very recently. lower upper limits quiescent been calculated.

Particle accelerators in the hot spots of radio galaxy 3C 445, imaged with the VLT.

Hot spots (HSs) are regions of enhanced radio emission produced by supersonic jets at the tip of the radio lobes of powerful radio sources. Obtained with the Very Large Telescope (VLT), images of the HSs in the radio galaxy 3C 445 show bright knots embedded in diffuse optical emission distributed along the post-shock region created by the impact of the jet into the intergalactic medium. The obs...

Gas Sloshing and Radio Galaxy Dynamics in the Core of the 3c 449 Group

We present results from a 140 ks Chandra/ACIS-S observation of the hot gas around the canonical FR I radio galaxy 3C 449. An earlier, shorter 30 ks Chandra observation of the group gas showed an unusual entropy distribution and a surface brightness edge in the gas that could be a strong shock around the inner radio lobes. In our deeper data we find no evidence for a temperature increase inside ...

High-resolution imaging of the radio continuum and neutral gas in the inner kiloparsec of the radio galaxy 3C 293

Using a combination of observations involving the Very Large Array (VLA), MERLIN and global Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) networks we have made a detailed study of the radio continuum and the neutral hydrogen (H I) kinematics and distribution within the central kiloparsec of the radio galaxy 3C 293. These observations trace the complex jet structure and identify the position of the s...

Jet-driven outflows of ionized gas in the nearby radio galaxy 3C 293

Fast outflows of gas, driven by the interaction between the radio jets and interstellar medium (ISM) of the host galaxy, are being observed in an increasing number of galaxies. One such example is the nearby radio galaxy 3C 293. In this paper we present integral field unit observations taken with OASIS on the William Herschel Telescope, enabling us to map the spatial extent of the ionized gas o...

Chandra Reveals Twin X-ray Jets in the Powerful Fr Ii Radio Galaxy 3c 353

We report X-ray imaging of the powerful FR II radio galaxy 3C 353 using the Chandra X-ray Observatory. 3C 353’s two 4′′-wide and 2′-long jets allow us to study in detail the internal structure of the large-scale relativistic outflows at both radio and X-ray photon energies with the sub-arcsecond spatial resolution provided by the VLA and Chandra instruments. In a 90 ks Chandra observation, we h...
